L'histoire

A launch title for the PSP, Darkstalkers Chronicle is an updated version of the fighting game Darkstalkers 3 (a.k.a. Vampire Savior) just like the Japan-only "Vampire Chronicle" on Dreamcast. Like Darkstalkers 3 on the original PlayStation, Darkstalkers Chronicle includes all the fighters from the base game as well as returning fighters from older entries in the series such as Pyron, Phobos, and Donovan. Most characters on the roster also have variations based on their previous appearances, often referred to as "Edition Select" (a feature previously seen in Street Fighter Collection 2 on PS1). Chaos Tower also adds a special survival mode where you ascend a new tower stage with a team of characters. Despite all these extras, dedicated Darkstalkers 3/Vampire Savior players strongly prefer other rereleases of this game due to long loading times, persistent slowdown, input delay, and a multitude of subtle changes to the fighters which make their attacks weaker or negate combos, among other revisions. Plus, as a PSP title, Chaos Tower is mainly 1-player unless another player with a physical or digitial copy of the game is present for ad-hoc versus. Interested buyers may enjoy Chaos Tower despite its flaws, but for a fighting game enthusiast it would be best to seek out Darkstalkers Resurrection or Capcom Fighting Collection, which offer superior emulations of the original arcade classic.
